Glutinous Rice Cake

From olden times, the Yonbaek area, including Yonan and Paechon in South Hwanghae Province, has been famous for glutinous rice cake.
The dish was mainly prepared on the occasions of holidays and birthdays and for wedding and other ceremonies. It was a custom for the locals to serve the rice cake to their guests.
The glutinous rice cake prepared in the Yonbaek area differed from those in other areas in that it was dressed with soybean flour.
It was spectacular that glutinous rice cake on the table of a wedding party was placed in a brass basin or brass jar. When the newlyweds paid their first visit to the native home, they took the glutinous rice cake that was cut as big in size as the pounding board and packed in a wicker trunk.
